It was a welcome start to the season following a rainy morning forcing last week's opening matches to be postponed. This week the weather was perfect. Thunderbirds made a strong start to the season winning 63-17 against Pink Ladies, with Rebecca Blake playing extremely well and deservedly picking up both player awards for their match. Stratford Ladies Purples quickly took the lead against Comets Tornadoes, with great defence by Lottie Baird. Comets Tornadoes fought strongly to close Stratford Ladies Purples' lead, particularly in the final quarter with great shooting by Becky Fernandez-Green. However, Stratford Ladies Purples hung on and snatched the win 51-47. The later games saw Shooters Flames win against BDR 30-24; a strong performance from Dannie Sutton [pictured with her team, far right] saw her also pick up both player awards; and also Trust Helping Hands putting in a great team effort with a 67-9 win over Shooters Sparks.
