Comets Tornadoes 45 Comets Thunder 20
Trust Helping Hands 54 Thunderbirds 10
Due to a combination of term dates and weather, no matches had been played for 6 weeks, so a bright, sunny morning was very welcome on Sunday! With 2 games conceded, just one court was in action with all four umpires on the day being assessed for their Into Officiating award.
Both Comets teams started the game with just 6 players, with Tornadoes later going down to just 5 following an unfortunate fall for Emily Manship taking her out of the game. Fortunately, they were able to 'top up' with players as the club's first team was playing a Redditch League fixture at the High School which finished earlier and so those players also registered to Tornadoes and Thunder were able to step in. The club's youth team played a strong match against Tornadoes, who used their experience well to manage dropping their wing players and playing out a comfortable win.
Trust Helping Hands and Thunderbirds enjoyed a friendly and sociable match. Trust Helping Hands' shooters were both on form, however Lauren Simmonds of Thunderbirds defended excellently, not allowing the height of Elle Kane [GS for Trust] to deter her efforts. Another fall and injury in this game saw Trust GA, Sally Morris, out of the match in the final quarter leaving Elle to take the midcourt ball feeds alone.
Umpires' player or the match awards go to:
Comets Tornadoes - Rhi Ridgway
Comets Thunder - Lucie Mellor
Trust Helping Hands - Sarah Kemp
Thunderbirds - Lauren Simmonds
Congratulations to Emily Holmes [Stratford Ladies Blues], Lucie Staniland [CBH] Charlotte Rhodes [Shooters], Helen Mellor [Comets Tornadoes] who all passed their Into Officiating practical assessments. The league, all the clubs and players all appreciate the efforts of all umpires who give up their time to undertake the task! Best of luck to all four of you as you continue to develop your skills.
