Match Reports 17 December 2017

18/12/2017

Thunderbirds 15 Pink Ladies 17
Trust 25 BDR 12 **Score at half time
CBH 58 Comets Thunder 12

This weekend saw matches played in a rather unconventional way.  With weather having prevented play on 2 previous weekends, the league was keen to get games played this week to keep the competition running to schedule.  Despite a frosty morning, teams arrived in the hope of getting matches underway.  As the outdoor courts were not deemed fit for play, the league moved indoors for the 0930 matches.  Stratford Ladies Blues and Shooters decided that they would play their fixture during a training session and this left CBH and Comets Thunder to play on the indoor court.

Comets Thunder held their own against CBH in the first quarter keeping level on goals, but the experience of CBH took them on to win by 46 goals despite a strong performance from the youth team.  Lucie Mellor fully deserved her player of the match award giving her team great support mid court and also in the circle when the team swapped positions around.  Becky Morris and Ella Kirby demonstrated some great shooting taking advantage of opportunities when they came.  CBH remain in second position behind Trust, but have closed the gap a little on goal difference this week.
At the end of this match, the captains of the teams due to play in the 1045 fixtures assessed the courts and agreed they were now safe to play and so these games were back on the outdoor courts.  .. and then, half way into the first quarter, the rain started to come down and the four teams and umpires got very wet as they battled the elements!  Trust took a 25 to 12 lead against BDR in a well balanced match.  However, at half time, BDR decided they did not want to continue and the game ended there.

On the other court, Thunderbirds and Pink Ladies continued in the rain to complete their match.  A great effort by all on a cold wet December morning.  Pink Ladies took the game by 2 goals.  Thunderbirds, having played with just 5, were thrilled with the result which sees them leapfrog Shooters [a game in hand] in the table and draw level on points with Comets Thunder.

The league would like to thank everyone, players and umpires alike, for their understanding and efforts in getting games played this weekend in difficult conditions.

Umpires' player of the match awards go to:

Thunderbirds: Lauren Simmonds
Pink Ladies: Charlotte Brookes
Trust: Sarah Kemp
BDR: Jenny Darby
CBH: Lyndsey Sansom
Comets Thunder: Lucie Mellor
