Please see below the results from this weekend:
Trust Helping Hands 45 Comets Thunder 22
CBH 59 Pink Ladies 9
Stratford Ladies Blues 44 BDR 13
After a long winter season, extended due to poor weather conditions, the final date of central fixtures were played on Sunday. One game remains to be played this week between CBH and BDR to complete the season.
Trust Helping Hands came to their match again Comets Thunder with a 2 point lead over CBH, but only one regular shooter available in the team. Rachel Goodman and Pauline Watson, both normally centre court attacking players adapted brilliantly to the position of GA to support Kay Dawson in GS who was in form in the shooting circle. Hannah Pritchard at C was literally everywhere on court, providing Comets Thunder with excellent support in attack and defence. The ball was cleverly worked to feed into Becky Morris and Ella Kirby, who both scored some excellent goals despite an excellent defensive game from Trust's Kelly Stepney. The win keeps Trust at the head of the table, but a win for CBH in the week would mean they will leapfrog them and take the title.
The match between CBH and Pink Ladies had opposite ends of the league table meeting each other. CBH showed their experience and comfortably led from start to finish, but the game was competitive throughout and played in an excellent spirit. Jo Haslam score some great long range shots for Pink Ladies, and Sarah Blake defended brilliantly limiting the amount of goals that CBH were able to achieve. Lydnsey Sansom, captain for CBH, had a great all round game playing C and later GD leading her team to a win in their penultimate match.
A win for BDR could have moved them one position up the table passed Comets Thunder as they are split by just one point. However, fourth placed Stratford Ladies Blues took the match with a reasonable margin. Strong defensive performances by both teams were recognised by the umpires as both goal keepers took the umpires awards - Sophie Amphlett for Stratford Ladies and Helen Handy for BDR.
Umpires players of the match awards went to:
